Lessons

Play-a-Story

Entry level, ages 4 to 6. This fantastic program by Inner Musician utilizes the abundance of imagination present in young children. The program combines storytelling with motivic improvisation to cultivate a creative and thoughtful relationship with the piano. Students will participate in drawing and movement to promote expressivity and further connect imagination with sound.

Simply Music

Entry level, ages 6 to 100. The revolutionary Australian-developed program that has students of all ages—kids, teens, adults and seniors—playing quality music from multiple genres—classical, pop, blues, jazz, and accompaniment—immediately, from their very first lessons. Simply Music contrasts traditional methods by fully absorbing students in a tactile, visual, and aural learning experience.

Beyond

Intermediate and beyond. Students will enjoy an adaptive lesson framework that equips them with the tools needed to effectively navigate the modern music forum, whilst remaining malleable to their unique interests and goals as individual musicians. Areas of investigation will include theory and composition, improvisation, technique, performance, and collaboration.

Due to Covid 19, all lessons are currently offered online via Zoom.

How I got here

I began my journey into teaching at a Montessori school in Westlake Village, CA, where I served as assistant to the music director. Her method synthesized aspects of the Kindermusik, Musikgarden, Dalcroze Eurythmics, and Orff teaching methods. It was incredible to witness her ability to fully engage her students’ imaginations through improvisation and story. I was groomed in her method in order to take over the program upon her departure in 2012. During my residency I taught embodied music and rhythm to classes of twenty-five-plus students and also offered smaller group lessons in piano, voice, and percussion.

Since graduating from California Institute of the Arts in 2016, I have worked at several piano teaching institutions including most recently, Palisades Music School where I gained fluency teaching the prominent Australian piano method, Simply Music.

Composer // Performer

I am very fortunate to have enjoyed an expansive career as a vocalist, drummer, and keyboardist. I have performed in pop, rock, and heavy metal bands, large African and Balinese ensembles, Choirs, chamber music groups, and barbershop quartets. I have composed and conducted music for orchestra, opera, and film.

I am a collaborator at heart, and I strive to bring that spirit to my work both on and off the stage. While attending CalArts, I co-founded the music collective DEDCAT Society with the mission to support local artists and musicians through the curation of multimedia performance events.
